We are experiencing some traffic delays en-route to us due to the roadworks associated with the 2012 Olympic Games. Weymouth Bay and Portland Harbour will be the venue for the Olympic and Paralympic Sailing competitions.

Details of the improvements are detailed below.

We advise you to
give us a call if you are planning a visit and we can direct you through the least congested route.

Work to resurface Portland Beach Road between Ferry Bridge and the sailing academy will start on Monday 5 July and last for three weeks, finishing on Friday 23 July.

The work will take place between 6pm and 1am Monday to Friday.

This is part of the county council’s accelerated investment in road maintenance over the next 12 months, as part of the transport planning for 2012.
All visitors to O'Three are advised to allow additional time for their journey and to follow the alternative route highlighted in blue on the map shown here.

The Weymouth Transport Package for the 2012 Games is a series of long-term public transport improvements which will provide a transport legacy for Weymouth and Portland after the Games.

The Department for Transport has approved funding for the scheme, and work will start on the town centre junction improvements on 7 June 2010.

Work on the Weymouth Showcase element of the scheme has already started. Funding for this part of the transport package was brought forward so that the county council can buy the equipment needed, install it and test it before 2012.

County council engineers have put together the transport package to improve public transport and to encourage more people to leave their cars at home and reduce congestion.

The package aims to:
  • Ease the impact of congestion, particularly for buses, along King Street and Boot Hill
  • Improve the quality of public transport by using newer buses and improving bus stops
  • Modernise the bus network by introducing real time passenger information (RTPI) on buses and at bus stops
  • Make it easier for people to use the bus and train by developing an interchange at the railway station
  • Improve air quality and pedestrian safety
